Members of Orissa State Bar Council protesting on Friday
Bhubaneswar:As per the resolution of Bar Council of India (BCI), lawyers of Orissa State Bar Council (OSBC) today protested outside the premise of Bhubaneswar Court, to oppose the inclusion of the legal profession in the proposed National Commission for Higher Education and Research (NCHER) Bill.

Raising their objection against the proposed act introduced by Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal, in the Rajya Sabha on December 29, last year, the lawyers said that it will take away powers of the BCI over legal education and profession and entrust it to a committee. The members were seen blocking the road by lying down and burning tyres.

It is noteworthy to mention that through this Act, the Government aims at establishing a regulator that would supersede existing regulatory bodies like the Bar Council of India (BCI), National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE), the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), except those engaged in agricultural education and research.
