Bhubaneswar: The fortnight long annual Adivasi Mela (tribal fair) will begin here from January 26, 2012 at the Adivasi Ground.

It is being hosted by the Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) Development Department to highlight tribal life, tradition and culture of the State that has as many as 62 tribes and 13 Primary Tribal Groups (PTGs).

The theme of this year’s Mela is ‘Better Livelihood and Happy Life’. “This year the event will have 156 stalls and the venue will be divided into various sections,” said research officer of Academy of Tribal Languages and Culture and in-charge of the Adivasi Mela, Paramanada Patel.

While the tribal fair was being held for a week earlier, it was made a two-week affair in 2010 with addition of a festival of tribal culture, said sources.
