Bhubaneswar: Just weeks after State Election Commission (SEC) received a parcel with detonator, a similar incident happened at the office of Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik on Friday at Odisha Secretariat with a parcel containing an explosive device along with a letter.

According to the police sources, a packet addressed to the Chief Secretary without having the senders name and containing a detonator along with a letter written in red inks was received from the postal department in the Diary section of the General Administration Department.

Earlier on January 13, 2012, a similar packet with a detonator was received by State Election Commissioner Ajit Tripathy.

According to the Police Commissioner Bijoy Kumar Sharma, both the letters came from Kankadahada in Dhenkanal district and this letter pointed out the poor conditions of health services in the area with large number of vacancy in the post of doctors, Besides, the letter had demanded immediate closure of liquor shops in the area.

Sharma said, the device was an Class-II Electrical detonator without a circuit that could not explode. “We will write to the postal department requesting them to scan bulk mail addressed to top officials and dignitaries to ward off any trouble in future” he added.

Meanwhile, the Dhenkanal district civil and police administrations had been alerted on the incident and for investigation.
