Bhubaneswar: The National Shipping Board (NSB) has sought compulsory deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in all ports of the country including non-major and minor ports.
At present, only Major ports have CISF security. In order to tighten security system at all ports to prevent insurgent activities and incidents like 26/11, the Board has decided to make a formal recommendation to the Central Government to take steps for compulsory deployment of CISF personnel at all ports.
Talking to the mediapersons, NSB Chairman P V K Mohan said, “CISF personnel are deployed only in major ports, while minor ports and non-major ports are not covered under the arrangement.”
At the 118th meeting of the Board held here, Mohan said, “An effective and uniform security arrangement should be put in place to step up surveillance and prevent any form of threat from the sea route.”
CISF will be the right choice to look after security in and around all the ports, he added.
Among others, Director General of Shipping Satish B Agnihotri, Chairman of Paradip Port Trust (PPT) G Jagannath Rao and 23 Board members were present.
