Bhubaneswar: The State Government on Tuesday dismissed the former Inspector-in-Charge of Pipili police station and gave the marching orders to Puri Superintendent of Police, Amitendra Nath Sinha, in connection with the Pipili gang rape case.

Earlier DGP Manmohan Praharaj had suspended the then Pipli police station Inspector in-Charge A K Champatiray on charges of suppressing the FIR of the girl’s family.

State Home Secretary U N Behera told reporters here that Sinha has been posted as Commandant in the Special Operations Group (SOG), State’s elite anti-Naxalite force and Koraput SP Anup Kumar Sahu would replace Sinha in Puri. The present commandant of SOG Avinash Kumar has been transferred as SP Koraput.

The transfer came five days after Agriculture Minister and Pipili MLA Pradip Maharathi resigned from the cabinet on moral grounds and one day after a high level meeting by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had on Monday cautioned police officers of “stringent action” in case of default in registration of offences against women and asked the DGP to ensure that all women-related cases were registered and dealt with seriously.
