Bhubaneswar: The fortnight long Orissa State Level Annual Adivasi Exhibition, popularly known as Adivasi Mela, kicks off in the Advasi Exhibition Ground at Bhubaneswar today.
Santosh Sarangi, Department Secretary, on Wednesday said that, the venue has been divided into seven sections. As many as 156 model huts of tribals will be displayed. The theme of this year’s Mela is ‘Better Livelihood and Happy Life’.
The fair showcases the art and craft of the tribal communities. Forest products and tribal products, exhibited and sold here as well as cultural programmes presented by tribal communities, are special highlights of the fete. This is a rare occasion to have a glimpse of the unique tribal culture of Odisha in the urban city of Bhubaneswar. It provides an annual opportunity for locals to buy household commodities.
It is being hosted by the Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) Development Department to highlight tribal life, tradition and culture of the State that has as many as 62 tribes and 13 Primary Tribal Groups (PTGs).
While the tribal fair was made a two-week affair from 2010, this year it would be a 11 day festival that will conclude on February 5, said sources.
