New Delhi: Internationally acclaimed Odia painter Jatin Das has been nominated for the prestigious Padma Bhushan and renowned Odissi dance exponent Dr Minati Mishra has been nominated for the Padma Shri just on the eve of the Republic Day celebrations.
Jatin Das is a recipient of many national and international awards. When asked about his reaction after his selection he said, “I was happy to receive the information. But I shall be really happy when the State of Odisha do something for the development of art and culture.”
Dr. Minati Mishra has been nominated for the prestigious Padma Shri.”I am happy for being nominated for the award,” said Dr. Mishra.
Other personalities from across the nation include late Assamese singer filmmaker Mira Nair, Bhupen Hazarika, late cartoonist Mario Miranda, filmstar Dharmendra, actress and social activist Shabana Azmi, bhajan singer Anoop Jalota, woman cricketer Jhulan Goswami and sportsman Limba Ram.
The Government of India on Wednesday had announced the names of 109 eminent persons from several areas for the three categories of Padma awards.
While five of them have been chosen for Padma Vibhushan, 27 would get the Padma Bhushan and 77 persons would get the Padma Shri.
The awards will be conferred on them by President Pratibha Patil in March or April.
