Bhubaneswar: The Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University, Bhubaneswar, has set up a “Centre of Excellence in Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences” on Thursday with the aim to undertake fundamental and basic research in these subjects.
The Centre was inaugurated by Prof. Khageswar Pradhan, Chancellor of the University.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Pradhan said, “Invention is not possible without a strong foundation and without rigorous specialisation in frontier areas. The nation needs institutions of excellence fostering original research at internationally competitive levels rather than encouraging career-oriented research.”
Mr. Rajendra Prasad Vice-Chancellor of the University said, the Centre’s aim is to develop a learning community of the highest quality both scientifically-advanced and internationally-oriented.
Prof. Mina Ketan Parida, Director of the Centre said, the major objective of the Cente would be to emphasize on original and indigenous research by dedicated faculty and scholars.
Several eminent scientists including former Director of Institute of Physics Prof. Siba Prasad Mishra, Prof. Subhendra Dev Mohanty were present.
