Bhubaneswar: The Odisha branch of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) would soon become operational in the State capital. The admission for 50 MBBS seats would start in August while the 500-bed hospital would become operational by December.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, Union Health Secretary, Pravat Kumar Pradhan on Monday said that “This year 50 students would be admitted in the MBBS while it will go up to one hundred from the next year.
It is noteworthy to mention that the Centre had approved six super-speciality hospital Patna, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Raipur and Rishikesh in March, 2006. The then Prime Minister Atal Behari Bajpayee had laid the foundations for the hospital and college.
Chief secretary B K Pattanaik during discussions with the Union health had demanded that the number of MBBS seats in the three Government medical colleges in the State should be increased by at least 100 for each college and sought Central assistance for opening of hospitals in the underdeveloped areas of the State.
