Jagatsinghpur: It seems there will be a tough contest between the Congress and the ruling BJD in the upcoming ZP elections in Jagatsinghpur district .
In spite of the fact that BJD lost the last ZP elections in 2007, the party got a thumping victory in the last general elections held in the year 2009 and received victory in all four assembly constituencies including its supported
left party candidate who won the Lok Sabha seat.
Political observers had described that the political fight inside the party was the reason that had benefited Congress during 2007. So at present BJD higher ups are more cautious not to repeat the past incidents. All the party
legislators have been assigned the job of selecting their ZP candidates and has strengthened its internal unity.
On the other hand Opposition Congress has also adopted a few regulations selecting candidates for the ZP elections. Meanwhile both the parties have already blown the election bigul.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during his one day election campaign had attended three public meetings covered at least 16 ZP seats and asked people to cast vote in favour of BJD for speeding up the state’s developmental works.
Opposition Congress on the other hand is yet to hold any counter meeting to thwart BJD’s campaigning trail. No state level congress leaders and star campaigners have visited the district when the elections are just one and half weeks ahead. However party’s district level leaders accompanying candidates have started door campaigning and visiting voters.
“Public meetings and campaign by state leaders would start very shortly and in the first phase we are meeting people and
convincing them to vote for the party, informed district congress president Rabindra Nath Mohanty.
While in recent elections BJD district unit has fully geared up chasing with rival Congress, party sympathizers are utilizing State Governments success stories attracting voters.
