Bhubaneswar: Shrabani Nanda has made the host East Coast Railway (EcoR) proud by winning a gold medal at the opening day of the three-day All- India Railway Athletics Championship that kicked off at Kalinga Stadium on Friday.
Shrabani ran a technically perfect race to emerge as the fastest woman in the women’s 100 m sprint in just about 11.95 seconds which is equal to her National best timing as well.
“I am happy to have won a gold medal. Though I was not well prepared, I tried my best to win the event,” said Shrabani.
As many as 15 events were finalised on the opening day of the Championship. A “Torch Rally” was taken out from EcoR Sadan, Headquarter of East Coast Railway to Kalinga Stadium in the morning.
Odisha Governor MC Bhandare inaugurated the Championship in presence of Indra Ghosh, General Manager, EcoR, Ashirbad Behera, Secretary, Odisha Olympic Association, Jhanja Tripathy, Executive Director, Indian Railways Sports Promotion Board and D K Samantray, President, EcoRSA.
Colourful cultural performance by Odissi dancers added to the glamour of the opening day ceremony of the Championship.
