Angul: Following the continual blockade of the Jindal Steel and Power Limited at Nisha in Angul district, a Division Bench comprising of Justice BP Das and B K Nayak on Friday has directed the DGP, Home Secretary and Collector, Angul to immediately ensure the opening of colony gates to the township and local colonies.
The Collector and the SP of Angul have been further directed to submit the status reports on the action taken by them by February 8.
The Court’s decision came in response to the writ petition filed by administrative head of JSPL, Saroj Kumar Mohapatra. He in his petition had pleaded urgent steps to be taken to open the four gates that has been blocked by the locals since January 25, to ensure the inflow and essential commodities for the residents.
While the affected persons are seen to be suffering as medicines shops have run out of stock, the doctors are not allowed to enter the township.
“Blocking ingress and egress of a colony and forcing inmates to leave the premises is nothing but an act of unruliness which the State authorities are bound to prevent”, the Bench ruled.
