Angul: As per the direction of the High Court, agitating locals on Saturday, lifted blockade before the company gate to facilitate movement of people living in the steel plant premises.

“We have lifted blockade from gates in response to the High Court order. However, we will not allow movement of any material inside the plant premises for construction work,” said Sanatan Sahu, Secretary of Birankeswar Khyatigrastha Praja Samiti – an organisation of land losers.

Rajesh Jha, Executive Director, JSPL, urged the people to desist from the path of agitation. He said, the company had already agreed to fulfill 13 of the 20 demands made by the Samiti. Rest of the demands will be taken for consideration in the next meeting after the panchayat polls.

It is noteworthy to mention that the people of Angul have been opposing the construction work at the steel plant site protesting attack on the locals where about 160 people including women were injured on January 25. The blockade has been affecting about 500 families for a week.

Meanwhile, the villagers said that the agitation would continue till the company concedes all their demands including hiking the compensation and a job to each family.
