Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress and the Left parties CPI, CPI(M), Forward Bloc, Samajwadi Party and RJD criticised the report submitted by SCW’s Chairperson Jyoti Panigrahy on the Pipili gangrape case and sought her resignation on Saturday.
Claiming Panigrahy’s report to be politically motivated, Bijaylaxmi Sahu, President, State Mahila Congress alleged how Panigrahy could make such conclusions that the allegation of sexual assault did not arise, when the Crime Branch and the judicial probe into the matter is yet to be over.
Sahu told mediapersons that had it been a fact that the girl was not gang raped, it could have been claimed earlier by the Pipili police or say the IIC who had to be suspended, the Puri SP who had to go on a transfer, the DGP, the Home Department under whose domain the issue comes, and the Pipili MLA who had to lose his job as a Minister and the Chief Minister who had to face the ire of the people, the civil society and political organisations at a time when the political credibility of the ruling dispensation is at stake.
It is noteworthy to mention that Panigrahy in her report had said that she pursued the xerox copy of the FIR and saw that no allegation of sexual assault on the girl and no name of the accused person were reported on the FIR.
As per the FIR, relatives of the victim found her lying half-naked in an unconscious state in a paddy field. Moreover the medical reports of the Capital Hospital and the SCB Medical College and Hospital disclosed that injury in the neck of the victim was caused by partial hanging.
“We would stage a demonstration in front of the SCW’s office on Tuesday demanding Panigrahy’s resignation”, Sahu said.
