Bhubaneswar: Shrabani Nanda has made the host East Coast Railway (EcoR) proud again by winning a gold medal at the concluding day of the three-day All-India Railway Athletics Championship that kicked off at Kalinga Stadium on Friday.
Shrabani ran a technically perfect race to emerge as the fastest woman in the women’s 200 m sprint in just about 24.56 seconds.
A Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Shrabani turned out to be the only athlete to win a medal for the East Coast Railways (ECoR) in the 77th All-India Railway Athletics Championship.
Jitin Paul of Western Railways and MM Anchu of Central Railway emerged as the best male and female athletes respectively. While Western Railway retained the team title with 221.5 points, Southern Railway finished runners-up with 200.5 points
In this whole Championship, Southern Railway topped the medals tally with 15 golds, 5 silver and 10 bronze. Wesstern Railway claimed a total of 24 medals with 9 golds, 10 silver and 5 bronze.
As many as 4 new record were established in the Championship, the last one by Deep Mala Devi of Eastern Railway in women’s 20 km race walk clocking one hour 41 minutes 54.57 seconds.
Trophies were given to the winners at the closing ceremony.
Among others, Indra Ghosh, General Manager, ECoR, Ratna Ghosh, President East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation, Saswat Mishra, State Sports Director and Dilip Kumar Samantray, President ECoRSA were present during the closing ceremony of the Championship.
