A Victim of Hooch Tragedy, Cuttack
Cuttack: Four persons died and 11 others were admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCB MCH) here today after consuming country liquor on Monday evening in Barang-Mahidharpada area under the Cuttack Commissionerate police limits.

The deceased have been identified as Baidhar Bhoi, Niranjan Bhoi, Ugrasen Bhoi and Bhaskar Dash. While Baidhar died at his home three others died at the SCB MCH, Cuttack.

It is noteworthy to mention that, the victims and the critically affected persons had consumed the killer brew from the liquor shop owned by one Baidhar Bhoi. Baidhar ran the liquor shop at his own house at Tukuklipada. It was Baidhar who was first killed by the spurious liquor.

The victims were first admitted to the Mahidharpada hospital as they complained of chest pain and nausea after having the drink and were then shifted to the SCB MCH as their condition became critical.

The Commissionerate police and the Excise Department swung into action immediately after the tragedy struck. The Cuttack DCP Praveen Kumar rushed to the village for an on the spot inquiry. The police seized several liquor bottles from the shop of Baidhar.

Baidhar’s wife Chhabi and his son who had been assisting him in this illicit liquor business were immediately arrested.
