Jagatsinghpur: Amidst much noise across the State over the growing number of women harassment cases, in a significant breakthrough police today has claimed to have successfully arrested an accused who had raped a physically challenged girl in Tirtol area last month.

The alleged accused Bikram Das was picked up from Harllur village near Bangalore outskirts where he had sheltered after committing the crime.

The District Superintendent of Police informed that the girl hailing from Chandilo village under Tirtol block had complained in police station that one Bikram Das had raped her on 24 January while she was all alone at home.

Acting on the complaint police had brought the victim to headquarters hospital here for medical examination and after getting medical reports had booked the alleged accused person under section 376 IPC but had failed to nab the accused as he had fled to Bangalore.

However taking clues from villagers and family members a police team rushed to the Bangalore and successfully nabbed him there and brought him to Jagatsinghpur on Wednesday and after a brief interrogation presented him in court.

The accused was later sent jail as his bail plea was rejected in court, SP said.
