Bhubaneswar: After the successful completion of culling of more than 36,000 poultry birds in past two days in the State Capital following the detection of the of H5N1 virus at the Central Poultry Development Organisation (CPDO) farm on Saturday, culling operations were conducted in the wards in the impact zone.
Eight teams were engaged in for the culling operation in the eight wards. As many as 235 birds were killed and about 93, 496 eggs were destroyed as operations in wards commenced. As estimated around 10,000 birds are to be annihilated.
There was a slow progress on the process as the birds were not killed on the spot rather they were transported to CDPO for culling.
About 24 teams have been formed to cover 8, 38,837 population across 1, 97, 661 households including slums, under the house-to-house survey.
Meanwhile the Rapid Response Team (RRT) which were set up for the surveillance, seized a truck load of eggs transported to West Bengal from Andhra Pradesh and destroyed on Tuesday as per the direction of Benudhar Das, Director, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services.
