Bhubaneswar: Amidst the increase in the death toll of the Cuttack hooch tragedy, senior police officials today said, that the consumption of two medicines, namely Epee-carm and Concentrated Cinnamon, produced at a pharmaceutical firm in Rasulgarh has resulted in this tragedy.
Commissioner of Police Bijay Kumar Sharma and team seized the alleged medicines from the houses of the deceased and raided the Eastern India Pharmaceutical Laboratory in Rasulgarh Industrial Estate, where he seized a few bottles with brand name level similar to the bottles recovered from the tragedy sites.
Firm owner Umakant Rath, his daughter-in-law and manager were immediately arrested.
The police said that the company had obtained licence from the excise department only a fortnight ago to procure rectified spirit. But the company used the spirit for production of the liquid that was added to the killer brew which contained 60 percent spirit.
Apart from this, the police also raided six medicine stores in the city and arrested six store owners.
