Bhubaneswar: Four persons died and around 35 others were injured during a tragic mishap, when a tourist bus fell off from the top of the Dhauli Hills around 1.30 pm in the afternoon on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Laxmipriya Mandal (26) and Taruni Devi (55) of Sareikela in Jharkhand and Dujaram Bareth (50) from Chattisgarh and Somnath Ray from Kolkata. The bus carried about 41 tourists from West Bengal, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand.
While three were received dead at Capital Hospital, Somanth succumbed on the way to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
According to sources, the bus fell around 30 feets down breaking the walls of Dhauli hills. The injured persons were immediately admitted to the Capital Hospital. 11 persons were referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack as they were critically injured . The tourists had boarded the bus from Puri and had come for the sight-seeing.
Although the exact reason of the mishap is not confirmed yet, sources said that while returning the driver lost control over the speeding bus which led to the accident.
Members of the Puri Tourist Bus Association rushed to the place after the incident. Many political party members and higher police authorities were also present on the spot inquiring the health of the people.
