Angul: Normal life was completely paralysed in the industrial town Angul on Tuesday following a dawn to dusk bandh call given by the association of Jindal displaced families in protest against the arrests of villagers and fulfillment of their demands.
The demonstrators blocked important entry points to the industrial town bringing communication to a grinding halt. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on either sides of National Highway 55.
The bandh call was given protesting the arrests of 18 fellow villagers while they were staging a dharna at an important gate of JSPL on Monday and the fulfilment of their 20 demands.
Business establishments and shops remained closed for the day. Four platoons of police forces were pressed into service to maintain law and order.
“The bandh was successful and peaceful, the agitation would be intensified if the concerned authorities do not pay heed to our demands, said Sanatan Sahu, Secretary, Kyatigrastha Praja Sangha.
