Bhubaneswar: The first ‘India Surf Festival’, a three-day event organised by Surfing Yogis, who introduced the sports to this part of the world only a year back, kicked off on Tuesday at Ramchandi beach along the Puri-Konark Marine Drive.

The festival was inaugurated by Ashok Tripathy, Secretary, Tourism and culture, Government of Odisha.

About 30 representatives from the boatmen’s association under the Chilka Development Authority (CDA) will be trained under stand up paddle during the festival for introducing the sport in their respective zones.

As many as 31 surfers from nine countries like Australia, Spain, Canada, Switzerland, America, Israel and Austria and trained proffesional surfers from India are taking part in this festival.

The festival kick started from the shore near the Lotus resorts. Huge number of tourists had gathered to see the event.

Among others Ajit Kumar Pattnaik, Chief Executive, Chilka Development Authority (CDA) , Dr. Debabrata Das, Director Odisha Surfers and Paddlers Association and Sanjay Samantaray, Chief of Surfing Yogis and head of Rangers Adventure Foundation (RAF) were present.

The festival will continue till February 9, 2012.
