Puri: Convenors of Odisha Gana Samaj accompanied by hundreds of social activists and locals staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Puri Superintendent of Police and the District Magistrate on Wednesday demanding CBI probe into the case.

They were shouting slogans against the police inaction in the case of minor girl Sasmita Patra’s abduction, rape and murder under the Chandanpur police station limits and demanded a CBI probe into the case.

Since powerful ruling BJD leaders are involved in the case, the police is not taking appropriate action against the accused, even after 10 long months of the incident, they alleged.

Adding more they said, there are serious lapses in the investigation process and disparity in the police inquest and postmortem reports.

So a memorandum was submitted to the District Collector, demanding CBI probe into the incident to ensure that appropriate justice is provided to the victim’s family.
