Bhubaneswar: The city police on Friday raided the godown of the Eastern India Pharmaceutical Laboratory, that played a key role in the liquor tragedy in the State, claiming 33 lives.
The seizure came after the arrest of Bhagirathi Mishra, Marketing Manager of the firm.
During the raid, the Commissionerate Police came across 800 odd plastic bottles and 700 plus glass bottles which contained Epeecarm. Police and excise officials had seized similar medicine bottles from the houses of the deceased, subsequently dubbing the Tuesday incident as a medicine tragedy.
“We believe there is no other player involved in the circulation of the alcohol-based medicinal formulations. It is this firm who is behind the whole incident”, a senior police officer said.
Meanwhile Biswanath Mallick alias Sania, a driver of the firm who played a key role in supplying alcohol-laced “spurious” medicines Epecarm and Cinnamon to victims was also arrested. Both will be produced in the local court today.
