Cuttack: The Odisha High Court has sought an immediate status report on the Cuttack hooch tragedy from the State Government on Friday.
A Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice V Gopagowda, and Justice B N Mohapatra has ordered the State Government as to answer why the Government has failed to stop the business of poisonous liquor when the Court had ordered for the same since November.
The Bench also directed the Health Secretary to ensure proper treatment of the affected and to monitor the same.
The directive came in response to a PIL letter petition filed by Nishikant Mishra,, advocate of Nationalist Lawyer’s Forum seeking a CBI probe into the incident. Keeping in mind the welfare of the people, the petitioner has also prayed for adequate compensation to the families who have lost their sole bread earners in the tragedy.
