Bhubaneswar: In connection with the Hooch tragedy in the districts of Khurda and Cuttack commisionerate police has arrested Anirudh Jena, the chemist of Eastern India Pharmaceutical Laboratory(EIPL) on Saturday.
The accused was arrested from Saheed Nagar area, a police official said.Prior to Anirudh’s arrest, the other officials of the lab arrested were EIPL manager and owner’s son, Somnath Rath, Marketing Manager Bhagirathi Mishra and the salesman of the laboratory, Biswanath Mallick. For the second time on Saturday evening, Excise department’s drug controller and commissionerate police raided EIPL.The raid was performed opening the seal of the lock of the laboratory. Papers, labels, batch numbers and some important papers were also recovered from the spot.
As per the evidence found by commissionerate police, Epikarm medicines were first poduced and then circulated in the market.A large number of Epikarm was confiscated on Friday.A large number of plastic bottles and caps were also bought by the company, police officials said.
Three officials were also suspended regarding the tragedy. Two officials of Excise department and 1 official from health department were suspended. Rasbihari Patra, Excise inspector of EIPL and Mritiunjay Behera, excise sub-inspector of Cuttack were suspended of excise department whereas Jyotirmayee Behera, health department was also suspended.
According to the sources, 143 persons are arrested in the last three days after the raid by the excise department in different parts of the districts of Khurda and Cuttack.
