Jagatsinghpur: As unconfirmed reports suggest, the second phase Zilla Paraishad polls held in Tirtol and Raghunathpur blocks for 6 ZP seats carried a clean sweep in favour of BJD aspirants. Out of 6 ZP constituencies, BJD candidates captured all six seats.
Though the ZP poll results are waiting official declaration, booth wise vote counting after completion of second phase of polls suggests that BJD contestants in Six ZP seats in Tirtol and Raghunathpur blocks are well ahead than their Congress counterparts.
In Tirtol block the election battle for ZP seats were mainly fought between BJD and Congress, in Zone1, Snehalata Das, Zone 2 Raimani Murmu, Zone 3 Manoj Mohanty and Zone 4 Prasanna Mallick from BJD were well ahead in good margin against the Congress rivals. Significantly Congress aspirant Pratima Mallick, daughter of veteran Congress leader and former Minister Laxman Mallick was trailing behind her BJD rival Snehalata Das in Zone 1.
For the 2 ZP constituencies in Raghunathpur block, BJD candidates Saroj Kanta Swain in Zone 1 and Jyotsna Rani Ray in Zone 2 were ahead in significant margin against their Congress rivals Sarat Barik and Jhunulata Ray.
It is noteworthy to mention that in the last ZP polls held in these seats in 2007, BJD had bagged 2 zones and Congress had captured 4 ZP seats. In the current ZP polls, out of the 12 ZP zones where elections are completed in Jagatsinghpur district, BJD candidates have captured the entire 12 seats where as Congress is yet to open its account.
