Bhubaneswar: Holding Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik responsible for the Cuttack hooch tragedy, Opposition Congress on Sunday demanded Naveen to resign on moral grounds and to probe a CBI inquiry into the matter.
“The Chief Minister instead of making others scapegoats should resign quickly”, said OPCC Chief Niranjan Patnaik.
Adding more OPCC Chief said, “Naveen’s carelessness and lack of dedication towards his duty has took lives of 34 innocent people. Many others are still fighting for their lives. While the Chief Minister is always trying to show himself clean, his associate BJD MLA’s are responsible for the production of local liquor.”
Accusing Naveen of protecting his chair by removing ministers and suspending officials to mislead people, Patnaik claimed that the Chief Minister had turned down a series of recommendations by excise ministers and a high-level committee to import country liquor to meed demand.
The PCC chief sought to know why the Chief Minister has rejected all the recommendations.
It is noteworthy to mention that Excise Minister A U Singhdeo had already resigned on Thursday owning moral responsibility for the illicit liquor tragedy. Three officers have been suspended for dereliction of duty.
