Bhubaneswar:Three more drug retailers were arrested on Sunday on the charge of selling the banned medicine Epeecarm and Cinnamon which was said to be the reason behind the hooch tragedy.
The arrested have been identified as Debashis Bhoi, Prashant Sahoo and Santanu Mishra. While Bhoi and Sahoo have their stores in Bhubaneswar, Mishra operates from Cuttack. Three of them were supplied at least 450 to 1,500 units of EPEE CARM and Cinnamom by Biswanath Mallick alias Sania, the driver of Eastern India Pharmeceutical Laboratory.
Earlier on Friday 1550 bottles of Epeecarm was seized from the factory of Eastern India Pharmeceutical Laboratory.
Sania had also delivered over 600 units to Baidhar Bhoi who ran the liquor shop at his own house at Tukulipada from where the whole incident started.
With the Sunday’s arrests, the total number of arrests by the police stands 11 including the proprietor, manager, sales manager, supplier of the banned medicine of the Eastern India Pharmaceuticals which was allegedly manufacturing the brand. The medicine laced with liquor was said to be the the sole cause for the death of 34 persons in the tragedy.
