Jagatsinghpur: Six Zilla Parishad constituencies, 34 Sarpanch, 34 Samiti member and more than one thousand ward member posts of Kujanga and Nuagaon blocks will go to polls today, setting in motion an electoral battle, which will give an opportunity to MLA and former Minister Damodar Rout and senior MLA and BJD District President Bishnu Das to bounce back into pre-eminence in their assembly constituencies.
The outcome of these ZP seats and Grama Panchayat polls will set the tempo for the 2014 assembly elections. The results will decide the supremacy of the ruling BJD and Congress in Kujanga and Naugaon regions.
Taking account of last ZP elections in 2007 in Kujanga block, out of 4 ZP Zones, BJD had bagged 2 seats and independent candidates had captured two seats. Ironically Congress candidates could not open their account. This time BJD and Congress have fielded candidates in 4 zones and it is expected that the main fight would be held between both the parties.
As many as 15 candidates for 4 ZP zones, 124 Sarpanch, 116 Samiti member, 845 ward member candidates are in poll fray in 27 Gram Panchayat of Kujanga block.
The Kujanga and the Nuagaon ZP elections has become a prestigious issue for Paradip MLA Damodar Rout and senior MLA Bishnu Das respectively as both the BJD stalwarts represent State assembly from there.
As BJD candidates were in winning spree after the completion of second phase ZP elections held in Jagatsinghpur district , both the BJD stalwarts were in campaign trail and were canvassing for the BJD supported ZP candidates and singing success stories of the ruling BJD Government.
In Nuagaon block, 2 ZP seats, 16 Sarapanch, 16 Samiti member and ward member posts will go on polls on today. In 2 ZP seats there will be expected triangular contest between Congress, BJD and BJP.
