Jagatsinghpur The third phase of Zilla Paraishad [ ZP] polls held in Nuagaon and Kujanga blocks for 6 ZP seats on Wednesday carried a clean sweep in favour of BJD aspirants.

Out of 6 ZP constituencies, BJD candidates captured 5 seats. The results of Zone 3 in Kujanga block is awaited because miscreants snatched ballot boxes in seven booths in Jhimani and Bagadia villages.

Though official declaration of the results are awaited, booth wise vote counting after completion of third phase of
polls says BJD contestants were ahead of their Congress counterparts in Tirtol and Raghunathpur blocks.

In Nuagaon block the election battle for 2 ZP seats were mainly fought between BJD and Congress. Elina Das in Zone 1 and Bhagaban Das Zone 2 were ahead of their Congress rival Mandakini Behera and Niranjan Behera in terms of votes.

For the 4 ZP constituencies in Kujanga block, BJD candidates Narendra Parida in Zone 1, Pritiranjan Mohapatra in Zone 2 and Laxmipriya Swainfrom Zone 4 were also ahead of their their Congress rivals.

Meanwhile district collector N C Jena informed that decision regarding re-polling will be made after consulting with the State Election Commission (SEC).

It is noteworthy to mention that in the last ZP polls in 2007, out of the six seats BJD had bagged 2, Congress had bagged 2 and 2 seats were bagged by independent candidates.
