Cuttack: Eminent lawyer, and former Union Minister Bibudhendra Mishra passed away at a private hospital here on Wednesday evening due to old age related ailments . He was 92 and is survived by a son and a daughter.
His wife, Uma Ray, had predeceased him in the year 2000.
Born in Kundheibenta sahi of Puri on November 30, 1928, Mishra was the Law minister in Jawaharlal Nehru’s second cabinet. He had participated in the 1942 Quit India Movement and was incarcerated then.
A noted Odia litterateur and lawyer, he had also edited some Odia magazines during his illustrious career as a literary figure in Odia language spanning over seven decades.
Several dignitaries including Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of Mishra. His death has created void in the literary circle of the State and country, Patnaik said.
