Bhubaneswar: Shalini Patnaik, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Odissi dancer from California, America, enthralled the audience by her solo Odissi recital in the State capital on Wednesday.
The dance recital was organised at Jayadev Bhawan by Centre for World Music and Odissi Dance Academy.
The first performance of the evening was Manglacharan in Sri Krushna Bandana, Bhaje Brajayik Nandana choreographed by Bichitra Nanda Swain.
Her next phase of Odissi dance recital was Pallavi and choreographed to the tunes of Raag Kirabani by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. The third performance was Chandan Charchita where she presented lord Krishna’s Raasa Leela with the gopis in Gopapur. This was choreographed by Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and Guru Aruna Mohanty.
The last performance of the evening was Durga stutee Dhaaye Subarna Barna, choreographed by Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and Guru Aruna Mohanty.
All the Odissi solo dance she performed enthralled the audience’s heart. She mesmerized the audience by her expressions and dancing style. Her dance recital proved that although she lives thousands of kilometres away Odissi has kept her rooted to the culture.
Among others Padmashree Minati Mishra, Padmashree Kumkum Mohanty, Mardala Guru Banamali Maharana, Guru Aruna Mohanty, Ashok Tripathy, Secretary, Tourism and Culture Department, Odissi Singer Ramahari Das, Dr. Purna Patnaik, Founder of the Center for World Music, San Francisco were present.
