Cuttack: Justice A S Naidu, a former judge of Orissa High Court has started his probe into the recent hooch tragedy that struck several villages in Cuttack and Khurda districts of Odisha on Saturday.
Justice Naidu visited the hospital and held a meeting with the authorities and doctors in connection with the liquor deaths. Naidu interacted with Superintendent Prof. DN Moharana and Prof. Sidhartha Das, head of the Department of Medicine. He sought postmortem reports and inquired about the condition of patients when they were rushed to the hospital from the villages after the tragedy. He also enquired about clinical diagnosis and cause of deaths from the doctors. He collected documents relating to the tragedy from the hospital.
It is noteworthy to mention that the State Government had appointed the Commission of Inquiry on February 10. The Commission will submit its report in six months. It would probe the causes and the circumstances under which the hooch tragedy had taken place.
It will also find out where the medicinal formulations spiked with spurious liquor were manufactured and supplied to. Besides, it will recommend measures to check recurrence of such tragedies.
During the probe Cuttack collector, S N Girish and Cuttack DCP S Praveen Kumar were present in the hospital.
Meanwhile another person Kailash Bhoi(65) succumbed in SCB, Cuttack on Saturday thereby taking the toll to 35. Kailash was admitted in a very serious condition in SCB and was undergoing treatment in the ICU.
