Bhubaneswar: The fifth and final phase of the election in Odisha is being held today in 806 gram panchayats and 110 Zilla Parishad segments under 48 blocks in 24 districts. An estimated 31.84 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in 11, 177 booths to choose their candidates.
If the reports are to be believed, BJD is leading in majority of areas. Out of the total polling of 14 Zilla Parishads, BJD is leading in 77, Congress in 14 and BJP in 2 Zilla Parishads respectively. Independent candidates are leading in 1 Zilla Parishad.
The administration has geared up to conduct the final phase of polling. All security arrangements are made for peaceful, free and fair poll today. While the Central paramilitary forces have been deployed along with the State police to ward off any untoward situation, particularly in the Maoist-infested areas, two helicopters are kept ready in Malkangiri for exigencies during polling in the sensitive outlying areas. Voting will be recorded from 7 am to 12 noon.
The SEC has ordered re-polling in 41 wards spread over eight blocks in seven districts of Cuttack, Nayagarah, Jajpur Kendrapada, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh. The re-poll is scheduled to be held on February 20.
Though the final results of the polling are scheduled to be declared on February 22, reports from the booth levels put the victory of BJD in ZP zones. As per non official sources, out of 743 ZP zones, BJD has bagged 554 seats with clear majority in 27 Zilla Parishads.
