Khurda: Two children died and more than 50 have been affected due to spread of Jaundice in seven villages under Tapang and Bajpur panchayats in the last one month.
The deceased have been identified as Rashmita Barik, daughter of Purnachandra Barik of Mahatpala village and Subhasmita Behera, daughter of Bhaskar Behera of Anda village.
More than 50 children have been undergoing treatment for suffering from Hepatitis. According to the sources, the students of the Sri Sri Saleswardeva Nodal High School were the first to be affected of Jaundice. 32 students of the same school are affected. Out of the total affected, blood samples of 13 students was sent for testing. Among those, Hepatitis ‘A’ and ‘E’ germs were found in 11 samples.
The children who are affected belong to Anda, Mahatpala, Bhajpur and Banamalipur villages under Tapang and Bajpur panchayats. It was feared that the disease might spread to more villages.
