Bhubaneswar: Security has been tightened across the city and in and around the Lingaraj temple on the eve of the coming Maha Shivaratri on Monday.
A preparatory meeting for the Maha Shivaratri was held on the premises of Lingaraj Police station on Saturday. In this meeting B K Mishra, Police Commissioner said, elaborate security arrangements would be made and as many as 25 platoons of police will be deployed. More number of women and traffic police personnel would be deployed around the temple. A special anti-snatching squad has also been formed to take care of chain-snatching cases.
In addition to this two more close circuit cameras and large screens woulld be put up to keep a watch on the movement of the crowd and non-entry of Hindus into the temple. Special arrangements of drinking water for the devotees has also been made, Mishra said.
Abani Patnaik, Chief Executive of temple administration said, “The time table for the rituals has been finalised. The temple will open at 3am and the first ‘aalati’ will be held at 3:30 am and the temple will open for darshan from 7am to 11 am. Rituals will be performed till 3pm. The ‘Mahadeep’ will be taken atop the temple between 9:30-10:00 pm.”
Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said sanitation workers will be available from today evening to Tuesday morning to ensure the cleanliness of the temple periphery. All possible arrangements have been made from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for conducting the festival.
Among others, MLA Ashok Panda, Bhagirathi Badajena, Bijay Mohanty and the heads of the three sevayat nijogs were present in the meeting.
