Bhubaneswar: A hurricane fifty by Manas Ranjan Nayak, who collected an incredible 42 runs from just one over, helped Centurion University crush Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) by six wickets in the opening match of the Siksha O’ Anusandhan Premier League (SPL) at the SOA Stadium here on Sunday.
In another match of the day, reigning champions Utkal University began their title defence in style. Utkal University trounced Vinayak Mission University by 159 runs.
In a Group-A tie, BPUT massed a competitive 180 for six in the allotted 20 overs with the help of Jagadish Patra’s 56 (9 fours and 1 six) and Soumitra Patnaik’s 33 (4 fours and 2 sixes). Abhijit Pradhan (3/31) and Navdeep Kumar (2/24) were the successful bowlers from Centurion.
Centurion chased down the total in 17 overs with Nayak hitting 52 off just 16 balls (4 fours and 5 sixes).
In the other Group-D encounter, Utkal University, rattled up 221 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs. with the help of by Rakesh’s 54 (5 fours and 3 sixes), Priyam Mallick’s 51 (9 fours and 1 six) and Priyatosh Pramanik’s 49 (7 fours and 1 six).
