Bhubaneswar: A day before the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri, the capital city witnessed a dreadful incident of a murder attempt on one of the main servitor of the Lingaraj temple.

Servitor Bhagawan Samartha (43) was found lying in a critically injured condition at a deserted graveyard near Mahatab road, Old Town, Bhubaneswar.

According to the sources, Samartha’s neck was slit, hands were slashed and stomach was stabbed by some miscreants. He was then admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCB MCH), Cuttack.

Nitinjit Singh, DCP, Bhubaneswar, said, “Bhagawan was found from the graveyard in an injured condition. He was immediately shifted to SCB MCH, Cuttack. We are investigating the case and search for the miscreant is on.”

Meanwhile security has been intensified at the temple for the festival.
