Bhubaneswar: The cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister and BJD supremo, Naveen Patnaik decided to raise the VAT from existing 4% to 5% on medicines, sugar, industrial and IT products.
Out of the total 17 proposals given to the government, the cabinet has approved 11 proposals. The Finance department proposal to raise Value Added Tax (VAT) has been approved by the cabinet. As a result of which the state revenue collection can be increased by 400 crores to 500 crores rupees.
The cabinet also approved to raise a State Industrial Security Force in the line of CISF. Cabinet approves the educational amendment by allowing Readers to become Principal. In another amendment cabinet allowed the cured TB and Leprosy patients to participate in the municipality elections.
