Bhubaneswar: Host Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed University (SOAU) registered a fluent four wicket victory over Centurion University to qualify for the semifinals of the SOA Premier League (SPL) here on Wednesday.
Centurion made a healthy 169 for 9 in the allotted 20 overs with Naresh Patnaik scoring a breezy 48 off 25 balls laced with (7 fours and 2 sixes) and Mirza Imran’s 27 (5 fours).
For the hosts, fast medium Abhijit Parida starred by claiming four wickets by conceding only 14 runs. Medium pacer Devkishen Patel and leg spinner Kundan Prajapati took two wickets each conceding 23 and 24 runs respectively.
Ratikant Panda’s 38 (5 fours, 2 sixes), Abinash Bhuyan’s 30, 5 fours, 1 six) and then Parida’s 29 runs off 24 balls, led the run chase successfully to reach the target with four balls to spare.
Andhra University and last year’s champions Utkal University, who had topped their respective groups to enter the semifinals yesterday, will clash against each other for a place in the final tomorrow.
SOA Deemed University will now await the outcome of the last match of the league between Ravenshaw University and Vir Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Group-C tonight to identify their semifinal opponents. If Ravenshaw wins, they would qualify for the last four and if VSSUT emerges victorious, the net run-rate will come into calculation to determine the group winner.
