Cuttack: In connection with the recent hooch tragedy in the districts of Khurda and Cuttack, the High Court on Wednesday has asked the then Excise Commissioner Sudarshan Nayak to file an affidavit within a week indicating the steps taken to check the trade of illicit liquor in the State, as per an earlier order passed by the court on November 3 2011.
A division bench comprising of Justice V. Gopalagowda and Justice Biswanath Mohapatra after considering the status reports filed by Collectors of Cuttack and Khurda districts has directed Nayak to file an affidavit.
As per the earlier order, the Cuttack Collector had filed an affidavit that stated the steps that had been taken to rehabilitate the bereaved families under various schemes.
However the affidavit filed by Khurda Collector through the Deputy Collector was rejected and was asked to file an affidavit by February 24.
