Cuttack: The death of a 38-year-old, woman in the labour room at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCB MCH) on Wednesday created a major controversy for the hospital as the relatives of the lady allege the negligence in treatment by the doctors leading to the incident.
The lady has been identified as Banita Das, wife of Bijay Das of BDA Colony, Bhubaneswar. She in her advanced stage of pregnancy was admitted in SCB MCH. As she developed labour pain ahe was taken to labour room where she developed fits and seizure. As she succumbed to her condition in the labour room, her kin charged the doctors with negligence. They alleged that she was left unattended and had a fatal fall from the bed.
Denying the allegation, Prof. Shyama Kanungo, head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department said that “When she was brought to the labour room, she had already begun signs of imminent eclampsia. She was kept under observation, but she developed complications and went into seizure in the afternoon.”
