The Forest Department’s vigilance wing raiding on Friday
Jagatsinghpur: The Forest Department’s vigilance wing on Friday raided two forest department sponsored private depots at Hat Bazar here and seized about 1500 cubic feet logs of different kinds allegedly stored for sale.

Mr Abhiram Nayak, Deputy Conservator,Forest who was leading the raid informed local media persons that the seized logs would cost more than Rs 20 lakh.

“After capturing the logs we shifted it to our local range office. The two depot owners would be prosecuted under section 56 and 21 of Timber Transit Rules 1980,” Nayak added.

The two private depots had been identified as Trinath and Somanath forest depots located near Hat Bazar here. Earlier both the depots were allowed licenses for operating log business, to look into public requirements and to report the local forest range office with regard to stock and to maintain legal stock register duly verified by appropriate forest officials from time to time.

Ironically during raid, vigilance sleuths found surplus logs stored in the depots and the stock register was manipulated. The depot owners Anam Charan Routray and Ajaya Ojha had forged the fact with regard to the quantity of logs stored in the depots.

The vigilance Ranger Rajanikanta Mohanty, Kujanga Range officer S K Sahu, Forester Ranjan Kumar Mishra assisted the raid.
