Bhubaneswar: A hurricane half century by opener Pratik Anurag Das helped Utkal University to retain the SOA Premier League (SPL) title with a seven wicket victory over hosts Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOAU) in the final at the SOA Stadium here on Friday.
Utkal University restricted SOAU to 142 for 8 in 20 overs and then reached the target with 4.1 overs to spare.
Das’s 73 off only 38 balls (6 fours and 7 sixes) and Priyatosh Parmanik’s 19 (1 four and 1 six) led their team to victory.
Medium pacers Abhijit Parida claimed 1/16, while Kamal Singh grabbed 1/ 21 for the SOAU.
Earlier, Utkal could reach only 142 in their allotted 20 overs mainly due to a sparkling knock of 39 by Kundan Prajapati off 19 balls (5 sixes). Opener Kanta Ashrit 26) and Abhijit Parida (20) also contributed to the total.
Medium pacer Satya Mishra (3/19) and Priyam Mallick (2/22) were the main wicket takers for Utkal.
SOAU’s Kundan Prajapati was adjudged ‘Man of the Tournament’ while S. Kranti Kumar (Andhra University) and Abhijit Parida (SOAU) were declared as the ‘Best Batsman’ and ‘Best Bowler’ of the Championship respectively.
Pratik Anurag Das, who lit up the evening with his power hitting, was chosen the “Champion of Champions”.
Mr. Asirbad Behera, Secretary of the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) gave away the prizes in the presence of Prof. R.P.Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor of the SOA Deemed to be University .
