Bhubaneswar: Under Pulse Polio Immunization Program more than four million children in the age group of 0-5 were covered in the state today.
According to the sources, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Department had directed all the Pulse Polio Centers to provide polio drops to children between the age group of 0-5. The Health Department had also launched an SMS alert service to remind the parents about the time and date of the Pulse Polio Immunization Program. People in large number came to Health Centers with their children to get pulse polio drop. House to house drive was also carried out by doctors, nurses and Health Department workers for Pulse Polio Immunization Program.
This campaign which has been started to make India a polio free country in 1995 has reaped rich dividends in the last two decades. Last case of polio was reported in West Bengal in January 13, 2011.
