Sambalpur: A Maoist leader allegedly involved in several attacks, including one on the site of a construction company last year, was arrested in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Monday, officials said.
The rebel is identified as Roshan Munda who hails from Chaibasa area of Jharkhand.
Munda was nabbed from a forest near Kishinda village during a joint combing operation by Central Reserve Police force(CRPF) and the state police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), official sources said.
Munda who has been involved in Maoist activities since 2009 was involved in a series of crimes in the Saranda area on Odisha-Jharkhand border, including a raid on a site of a construction company at Munder village in October last year, when the rebels torched at least ten vehicles of the company.
Meanwhile combing operations at several strategic locations are being carried out on a regular basis in the locality in an effort to put a check on Maoist operations, sources said.
