Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Monday has directed the State Government to file a detailed status report on the recent hooch tragedy in the Cuttack and Khurda districts that claimed as many as 40 lives.

Treating a letter petition filed by Nishikant Mishra as PIL, a division bench of Chief Justice V Gopala Gowda and Justice B N Mohapatra directed the Government to provide the detailed report on the incident within two weeks time.

Meanwhile, the High Court has accepted a status report filed by Rupa Mishra, Collector, Khurda over the issue. The Cuttack collector had earlier filed a status report which was accepted by the High Court. But the court had refused the report of the Khurda district which was filed by the district sub collector.

Similarly, former Excise Commissioner Sudarshan Nayak has also filed his affidavit before the Court on the steps taken by the department to curb sale of illicit liquor in the State as per the direction of the High Court in November 2011.
