Bhubaneswar: The State capital has come under a thick security blanket in view of Vice-President of India, Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari’s proposed visit to attend the 44th Convocation Ceremony of Utkal University on Friday.

The Vice-President is slated to visit Raj Bhawan after landing at the Biju Patnaik Airport today.

The University will award 90 gold medals and 192 Ph.D at its convocation. Students of 27 regular departments along with those from different financing courses, will be graduating on the day.

Police and SPG teams on Wednesday conducted the security rehearseal including Commissioner of Police B K Sharma, Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjeet Singh and security personnels that spanned Biju Patnaik Airport, Raj Bhawan, and Utkal University Campus for the Vice-President’s entourage.

Moreover, a huge number of policemen too will be deployed to look into security factors, a senior officer said. Around 28 platoons of policemen and 3 platoons of APR will be deployed on the route between the Airport to Vanivihar at different locations.

Requisite barricading has been done in many places and the traffic policemen will inform the people about the diversions, the officer said.
