Jagatsinghpur: There are many aspirants from BJD for the post of President of the Jagatsinghpur Zilla Parishad [ ZP], as it remains unclear who will capture the post.

The post of President here has been reserved for candidates of general Category, making at lest 5 candidates eligible from the BJD who has been bagged 23 ZP seats out of 26 seats in just concluded ZP elections. While no
competition exists as the opposition Congress party was satisfied winning in 3 ZP seats.

Following the February ZP elections to the 26 Zilla Parishad seats, the BJD emerged as the single largest party after winning in 23 seats with the Congress winning in 3 seats.

With this clear verdict in favour of State ruling BJD, aspirants for the ZP president post among the elected ZP members have increased.

It may be recalled that BJD is divided in district under the leaderships of former minister and legislator Damodar Rout and district BJD president and senior MLA Bishnu Das. Both the BJD heavy weights were in no mood to present a suitable candidate unanimously. Besides MLA Das is in comfortable position as his sponsored 14 ZP candidates in Tirtol and Jagatsinghpur assembly constituencies have emerged victorious in ZP polls as consequence he deserves
to choose any one his supporter giving ZP president post.

Sources added that MLA Mr Das has invited his own trouble when 4 of his supported ZP members have become aspirants for the ZP president post. Interestingly one woman elected ZP member Kanaka Prava Lenka a former block chairperson has been lobbying hard for the post.

Besides MLA Mr Das old friend and college mate Devidatta Mohanty and Manoj Mohanty have expressed desire occupying the post. In turn MLA Mr Das quips that ‘wait and watch’ the name will clear up before the election to Zilla Parishad President post which is scheduled to be held on March 13.

However BJD stalwart Paradeep MLA Damodar Rout maintains complete silence over the selection of BJD’s nominee for the ZP president post. However sources indicate that his supporter an elected ZP member from Kujanga and former block chairman Narendra Parida is lobbying for the post.
